By the lake: is located on a narrow strip of land overlooking the stunning expanse of Lake Michigan. This unique setting inspired a design that not only embraces the panoramic views but also respects and preserves the surrounding landscape. The primary living spaces are elevated to capture uninterrupted vistas of the lake while minimizing the building’s footprint on the site.
Warm, natural materials give the home a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Its simple form, paired with strategic glazing, creates a structure that feels more like a viewing instrument or camera lens than a conventional residence. The goal was to design a space deeply connected to its environment—one where the outside flows seamlessly through the interior.
Designed to comfortably accommodate four people, the home can easily expand to host family or guests. It offers an intimate living experience and serves as a peaceful retreat from the bustling summer activity nearby. The previous house on the site was structurally compromised and built too close to the bluff’s edge. The new design provides greater resilience while honoring and protecting the sensitive landscape
